Normal Modes of the Earth II
"Normal Modes of the Earth II" is a typed TeX file contained within a light blue binder. Dahlen began putting it together in January of 1993. It is relatively small, containing only 41 pages in total.

The document is about discrete systems and is arranged in a format similar to that of lecture notes. Dahlen emphasized that the emphasis of this lesson on discrete theory would be centered around aspects that have "direct analogues in the study of the Earth's free oscillations". It ends with two examples which help contextualize the theory and guide students through its process. These include: coupled pendulums, and a marble in a rotating goldfish bowl.
