Recent News (09/16/11) I traveled back to Princeton and successfully defended my dissertation entitled Stratigraphic Records of Paleogeography and Global Change from Two Late Proterozoic Basin and am returning to Minnesota with PhD in hand. (09/01/11) This fall, I am teaching GEOL 360: Sedimentology and Stratigraphy as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Carleton College Geology Department. (07/31/11) I am back from a great field season spent with Carleton College senior Angus Vaughan studying the Osler Volcanic Group and associated sediments in the Lake Superior Archipelago of Ontario Canada. Angus will continue to work on the project for his senior thesis project and is currently developing data at the Institute for Rock Magnetism. (04/20/11) Our paper on the origin of a self-reversed magnetization in 1.1 billion-year old basalt flows is out in the May 1st issue of Earth and Planetary Science Letters. With stratigraphic context for the data and a slew of analytical approaches we found that this enigmatic magnetization is held by martite (hematite that has replaced original magnetite grains). (01/01/11) I have been awarded a Earth Sciences Postdoctoral Fellowship from the National Science Foundation that I will begin in December 2011 at the Institute for Rock Magnetism. I am looking forward to this fantastic opportunity to conduct research in a stimulating environment with great people and state-of-the-art analytical capabilities.
