Side and top views of the interior of SXEER's sample compartment,
demonstrating the procedure for collecting X-ray absorption spectra of aqueous samples (the sample
has been moved back for clarity). Liquid samples are held in an upright straw, which is sealed at
the bottom and has an opening cut into the side. The liquid is held in by surface tension,
exposing an air-water interface at the opening. The sample compartment is then sealed shut and
purged with Helium.
