Cerro Negro Located Near Seboyeta, New Mexico

Cerro Negro is an eroded volcanic neck. The basaltic lava of the neck was about 1200°C at the time of emplacement. A zone of sterilized rock around the volcanic neck will be sampled at a depth of several hundred meters to determine if microorganisms are present.
