THE ROLE OF METALS IN NITROGEN CYCLING IN SOILS
Field studies of N2 fixation
In collaboration with Lars Hedin (link) and Alex Barron in the department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, we are investigating directly in the field the importance of molybdenum and vanadium for nitrogen fixation in natural ecosystems.  We are currently working on the Barro Colorado Island in Panama, which serves as a model for nitrogen-rich tropical forests growing on highly weathered and acidic soils.
