Welcome to our web page

Our efforts focus on determining the fundamental mechanisms of deformation in the upper crust. Major research themes include relationships between folding and faulting, forward modeling and restoration of structures, critical-taper wedge mechanics and the tectonics of active mountain belts, particularly in California, the Andes, and Tien Shan mountains of western China. In addition, our work has important applications to petroleum structural geology, earthquake hazard assessment, and planetary geology.
